CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

After teaching 3 back to back to back kindergarten classes at school today, I had the pleasure of meeting with Elliot Curtis- the founder of a program called "SNEAKEROLOGY" - the worlds first college accredited course dedicated to sneaker design (which I deemed the "grown up" version of Walkin' The Tightrope). How awesome? Although there is an unquestionable difference between Carnegie Mellon University college students and John Marshall Elementary students, it was great to touch base with someone local who shares such similar passions and aspirations.

As Elliot and I bounced ideas back and fourth for the exhibition on March 5th, it helped me further realize just how much work has to get done between now and then! So...I turn to YOU.

If anyone would be interested in volunteering at our event on March 5th from 4-8pm, we need all hands on deck!

Please feel free to contact me to discuss exactly how you can be of assistance: ochaffee@gmail.com

Thank you everyone!!!

*Thanks to Elliot for meeting today- you are great!

WE'VE GOT THE POWER!

With yet ANOTHER snow day threatening this week, it is now officially past "crunch time." We have not gone a full week of school since DECEMBER, and we now have only 3 more 45 minute classes to finish everything for the students big debut on March 5th.....CAN WE DO IT?!?!?

I have put together a motivational playlist for my students this week...one of the songs includes an old favorite:

READY...SET...SNEAKERS!!!

Last week was totally exciting! Once students had final approval of their written statements:

We individually discussed their PLAN for their design, and more importantly, how they were going to make what they described to me on paper come alive on their shoe. Once this was out of the way- THEY WERE FINALLY GIVEN THEIR REAL SHOE, and it was one great day in art land...

AND THERE WAS SOME HIGH-FIVING

AND THERE WERE SOME GREAT STARTS

TA-DA!! STAY TUNED.

*extra special thanks to Ms. Hudlin for her fabulous photography skills, and invaluable help during class time each and every week! WE LOVE YOU MS. HUDLIN.

THANK YOU MR. EDWARDS!

Mr. D'wayne Edwards and his fabulous colleague Ms. Makeeba McCreary courageously battled the elements to visit our school this morning! We are so grateful to them for making it out! Mr. Edwards had a lot of inspiration to share with our students as we creep closer and closer to our final art show.  (MARCH 5TH)

Throughout our "walkin' the tightrope" journey, I have used shoes as a catalyst to stress the importance and power of original thought and hard work to my students. Mr. Edwards entire career started with his brain and his PENCIL. What started as a love of drawing sneakers, lead him to people and places even he couldn't imagine- we at the Marshall are so grateful that for one SNOWY day, he was lead to us!

THANK YOU MR. EDWARDS & MS. MCCREARY!

*Special thanks to our principal Ms. Jackson for helping coordinate this visit, and to Ms. Withington for taking some great video footage!
